playgroup discussion and a lightbulb moment.

sorting through pictures of baby Henry: swoon.

There's a playgroup/moms group that gets together Thursday mornings in Belmont that I love. Also, that I haven't attended in months. Sometimes 11 am just doesn't work out the way I want it to. The beauty of the group though, is that each week we (I use the term loosely here) pick out a talk/devotional/etc that we want to discuss, then chat under a pretty tree near a playground where the kids can play. When all the stars align, it's divine.

This week's talk was from President Uchtdorf on Creating and Compassion. We really focused on creating (along with creating while we served and how service is a part of creating) and seriously, a lightbulb went off on how important Heavenly Father views creation. Most of the time, I think about creation, He created the Earth and the worlds, and I can create children, but it's so much more than that. We create by turning nothing into something, whether that's a piece of art, a photograph, a laugh, or a smile. We create when we clean our home and turn it into a peaceful environment. We create when we're patient and loving with our children as we let them create, whether it's with crayons or picking out their own outfits.

We went around the group and most of us got to share how we create and it was so eye-opening. It made me realize that my love/hate relationship with Pinterest needs to stop. It shouldn't be a place where I see all these fabulous things and then think to myself, "I'm never going to be that good at (insert talent here)" but instead a place for inspiration and then to know that whatever I create, however good/not-so-good it turns out, I did it, I created something, I created a bit of happiness.

If you haven't read the talk, or read it in a while, I highly suggest it. Now, get to getting and create something!

  1. Thanks for sharing! I loved your thoughts. Also, kudos- we just talked about snotty noses and ate ice cream today. But oh my, I had a Mareto almond scoop that I Know you would love. Also, do you like nuts??
