Motherhood

Ok, so I'm not a mom yet, but with motherhood surrounding me, thanks to Whitney and Naomi and other friends both in reality and in the blogosphere, I seem to be thinking about motherhood more and more these days. Today I saw a post with some really great quotes on motherhood. The quotes that help you get by even when days are a struggle. I just had to write these down so that in the future, I can come back to these quotes, post them throughout my home, and look to them on days that are tough.

"Women rock a sobbing child without wondering if today's world is passing them by, because they know they hold tomorrow tightly in their arms.  When the real history of mankind is fully disclosed, will it feature the echoes of gunfire - or the shaping sounds of lullabies?  Will what happened in cradles and kitchens prove to be more controlling than what happened in Congresses?"  - Neal A. Maxwell

"I don't want to drive up to the pearly gates in a shiny sports car, wearing beautiful tailored clothes, my hair expertly coiffed, and with long, perfectly manicured fingernails. I want to drive up in a station wagon that has mud on the wheels from taking kids to scout camp. I want to be there with grass stains on my shoes from mowing Sister Schenk's lawn. I want to be there with a smudge of peanut butter on my shirt from making sandwiches for a sick neighbor's children. I want to be there with a little dirt under my nails from helping weed someone's garden. I want to be there with children's sticky kisses on my cheek and the tears of a friend on my shoulder. I want the Lord to know I was really here and that I really lived." -Marjorie Pay Hinckley
